This week in Interior Design we learned about housing needs, psychological needs, physical needs, and the housing life cycle. The physical needs of a content household are love and belonging, privacy, creativity, and identity. The psychological needs a house should meet are shelter, sleep, food preparation, storage, and safety. The other thing we learned about is the housing life cycle. It starts with being a young adult, then moves to young families, and goes to the launching stage. The launching stage is when your kids start to move out, and go to college. Then of course the last and next stage are empty nesters, and that is when you are elderly and advance to a nursing home or downsize your home you have now. Housing choices relate to the life cycle because it is all about family size, budget, and lifestyle. In conclusion, this is what we have been learning in interior design recently.

When I'm at my young adult stage, which is around 22, I could see myself living in a cool little apartment like shown below. This kind of apartment would fit my personal needs at this age because it isn't anything big and special. It's just a little something before I make more money to move into a little bigger house than this. This will be located in St. Cloud, Minn. because that's where I'll be going to college.

When I'm moving toward my next stage, the 'Young Family' stage, around 33 years old; I could see myself just living in something simple like this. Starting out with something affordable and not too big that includes just 2 or 3 bedrooms to begin with. I think this would be realistic for me because this is a good starter house before I have any kids or anything. This will be located in Minn. as well, but I'm not sure where in Minn. it will be located.

At around 42 years old, at my launching stage, I could see myself living in Minn, still in a house similar to the one above, but just bigger. I could start to settle down with my family at this stage, and if I have older kids going off to college, they would be leaving the house at this time. This would be ideal for me at 42.

Lastly, when I'm 75, at my empty nester stage in life. I could see myself living in an assisted living home. I'm guessing at 75 I won't be able to do much. This will still be located in Minn.. It will be a bigger nursing home by the looks of the picture.
